In decentralized trading, a Rug Pull is a malicious scam where developers drain all the funds from a token's liquidity pool, leaving investors holding worthless tokens that cannot be sold. Three Critical Red Flags to Inspect
- Unlocked Liquidity Pools (LP): When a pool is created, the dev receives LP tokens representing ownership of the pool. If they do not lock or burn these LP tokens, they can withdraw all the SOL at any moment, rugging the project. Always verify that LP tokens have been sent to a dead address (burned).
- Active Mint Authority: If the token contract still has Mint Authority enabled, the creator can print an infinite number of new tokens out of thin air and dump them onto the market, diluting buyers to zero.
- Active Freeze Authority: A highly dangerous feature. If the creator retains Freeze Authority, they can selectively freeze buyers' wallets, preventing them from selling while the developer drains the liquidity pool.
